Normally, that decision would be completely fine however, as time goes on, it's starting to look like fans of its story will never get a resolution to one of the game's biggest mysteries: the cliffhanger ending. On the other hand, ongoing rumors surrounding Call of Duty 2020 have painted a fairly bleak image of the game's development cycle, and with no official word on the game near the end of July, it's looking possible that this might be the first year without a new entry since 2004, excluding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.įlashback to the last console generation launch, the world was in a drastically different place, and Call of Duty: Ghosts was being promoted as the beginning of a brand new generation of Call of Duty, from the developer that started it all. Unfortunately, Ghosts released to mixed reviews from both critics and fans and is widely considered one of the worst games in the series comparatively, prompting Infinity Ward to move onto Infinite Warfare and the Modern Warfare reboot rather than develop a sequel. The Call of Duty franchise is in a pretty strange place right now. The release of last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot breathed new life into a tired series and the accompanying standalone Call of Duty: Warzone battle royal helped bolster the series to the best place its been in years.
